Smush turns word formation into a strategic battle where each letter matters. Use a few letters to construct valid words, use your remaining letters strategically, and try to achieve the highest score before running out.

Smush: An Overview

Smush is a word puzzle game about making as many legitimate words as you can out of a 9-letter board. You need to have one central letter, from which the surrounding letters allow you to create more words. There are only a limited number of uses for most outer letters, so if you make a poor word choice, you may not have the letters available for better combinations later on.

Game Features

  • Daily Word Puzzle: Solve a new puzzle each day with a new set of letters and words to choose from.
  • 9 Letter Board: Make words using the center mandatory letter and the 8 letters surrounding it.
  • Limited Letter Uses: Letters have a maximum use of five times, so you must plan a little.
  • Spicy Letter Bonuses: Score multipliers and help to your total can come from special letters.
  • Pangrams: Words that use all nine letters on the board are worth a nice bonus in score.

Controls Guide

  • Keyboard: Type letters to spell a word.
  • Enter: Send in your finished word.
  • Backspace: Removes the last letter typed.
  • Mouse: Select menu items, start a new game, or click on-screen buttons.

Power of Clever Word Selection

The finest tips involve handling your letters intelligently, not just playing as fast as you can. The words you use each cost resources that you could use for your next move, so making good choices can help you rack up a far better score.

Begin with the Center Letter

All eligible words include the center letter. Use it as a basis when looking for possible terms, and look for combinations that can lead to longer or more valuable submissions.

Flexible Save Letters

Do not use the same flexible letter over and over again. Saving letters that can fit into many distinct words provides you with more choices when the board grows harder to manage.

Find Longer Words

When you have found a few short words, try to build longer combinations using the same letters. A strong, longer term can be more beneficial than using a few limited letter uses for simple entries.

Search for a Pangram

Before you finish a board, see if you can make a pangram with all nine letters. This could be a nice scoring chance and a reward for careful research.

Use Remaining Letters Wisely

Keep an eye on letters that are close to their usage limit. If you have only one use remaining on a letter, think about whether using it for a special term or last-use opportunity will give a better result.

Smush brings together a common word-building premise with limited letter use, bonus elements, and the chase for a score. The main issue is knowing whether to score quickly and when to keep the right letters for later. Each board allows you to enhance your word selections, to find stronger combinations, and push your personal best even farther.
